BLESSING OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR AT HOLY TRINITY CATHEDRAL - PITTSBURGH, PA
BLESSING OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR AT HOLY TRINITY CATHEDRAL - PITTSBURGH, PA

On Sunday, September 7th, 2025, the faithful of the church-school congregation of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Pittsburgh, PA came together in prayer and unity to show their love and support for the youngest members of the parish, the present and future of our church, as they prayerfully embark on a new journey, making their first steps in the new school year.

The joyful commencement of the academic year was inaugurated with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, officiated by the parish priest, Reverend Presbyter Nebojsa Varagic. With the blessings of His Grace Bishop Irinej of Washington-New York and Eastern America, the Prayer Service marking the beginning of the School Year was incorporated into the Divine Liturgy. The congregation was afforded a special opportunity to collectively pray for the children, their parents, and educators.

In his sermon, Fr. Nebojsa emphasized the connection between the Feast Day of the Synaxis of the Serbian Saints and the beginning of the school year with the words: “Let us pray today that our children, inspired by the saints of our people, may grow strong in faith, hope, and love. And let us also pray for the parents and teachers who guide them, that they may have wisdom, patience, and strength in their holy work. For in the children, supported by their families and teachers, we see the future of the Church, and through them, the Serbian Saints are glorified anew and celebrated unceasingly.”

Following the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Nebojsa extended his warmest greetings to His Excellency, the Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Dr. Vladimir Bozovic. With the blessings of His Grace Bishop Irinej, Dr. Vladimir Bozovic visited the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Pittsburgh, PA, where he gifted the children with his undivided attention and valued time to speak to them, wishing them a blessed new beginning and reminding them of their Serbian roots and heritage.

With many faithful present, along with the crown of our community—our beautiful children—the day truly celebrated the Synaxis of Serbian Saints. The light of Christ, carried by St. Sava, the first Archbishop of Serbia, and by all the Serbian Saints, was embraced in the hearts of our youngest members. May that same light continue to shine within them through the unceasing love and support of their priest, parents, and teachers.
